The idea for Pure Garbage began as a visual art project that would have theoretically involved me collecting a bunch of trash and then turning it into a sports coat or something artistic. This would have been brilliant, but I'm a musician and not a visual artist. Instead, I wrote a bunch of folk songs with a similar theme to the art project to be.
These are all songs about miscommunication and issues between individuals on a deeper level. I think I really felt emotionally connected to these themes over the years I worked on it, as they were my junior and senior years of high school. Insecurity really shows through; especially on the softer tracks.
Anyways, I'll get to the point. I spent two years working on these little songs; so please enjoy them!

Track Name: Clique Crickets
why don't you just calm down? indulge in a cup of tea
if I were even slightly disappointed the crickets would chirp at me

you shouldn't have to worry. I am a nihilist
let me reiterate so you can understand exactly what that is

is it so unusual to be as insecure as this?
even owning space and time I'd probably just make fun of it

I understand your concern and promise I'm not depressed
it just happens that people are the irrational lowest of the best

if I were surprised you might as well just go
somewhere where the gas is free and infinite daisies grow

is it so unusual to be as insecure as this?
even owning space and time I'd probably just make fun of it

I understand your concern and promise I'm not depressed
Track Name: Hidden Gem
Something that struck me
When you burst out through the door
Was that I know that nothing cuter
Has cried that way before

It’s selfish to think
That you’d be in less pain
If you cut communication
And waltz’d over my way

None of the others know you in the same way (Woo-hoo)
You’re a hidden gem and your eyeliner is stained (Woo-hoo)
And I could never bring myself to say that I adore you

Every time your lips part
The aurora borealis
Sets sail with me to greater things
And it’s a work of art

If you would just cut ties
With the toxic implications
Then maybe you’d find
That you feel like I do

None of the others know you in the same way (Woo-hoo)
You’re a hidden gem and your eyeliner is stained (Woo-hoo)
If I could just bring myself to say that I adore you
But I could never bring myself to say that I adore you
Track Name: Velvet Red
My eyes
Are dilated
Though I’m not high
They just like to widen
The trees are ablaze
The daisies are lit by
The morning

Velvet red
Chair’s sun faded
The weather seems warm
From the insulation
Don’t open that door
You’ll find you are mistaken

I don’t need love
Well maybe I do
But I don’t need love
From you

Socks, no shoes
It’s more without you
Slide on the tile
Twirl with style
Dance to a groove
Lay on the couch
By the fire
No, I’m not sick
I’m just aching
Underneath all
The colors unbreaking
The sun’s in my face,
So I can’t stand to talk to you

I don’t need love
Well maybe I do
But I don’t need love
From you

I don’t need love
Well maybe I do
But I don’t need love
From you
So don’t pick me up
And don’t drop me off
‘Cuz I wanna just lay around
Track Name: Charity
You never told me how much it hurts to be so lonely.
I just assumed that I lacked the gut to testify.
It always seemed neglect was easy, cuz I dealt it.
Now on this bus ride home I’m understanding why.

It’s hard to be Charity.

If you’d believe me girl...
If you’d believe me girl...
If you’d believe me girl...
If you’d believe me girl...
I’ll try to change.

In the beginning, there was darkness before light.
Maybe that darkness is the reason I’m so blind.
Maybe the darkness is a boat without an anchor.
If I could lighten up the room, I’d be no stranger.

It’s hard to have clarity.

If you’d believe me girl...
If you’d believe me girl...
If you’d believe me girl...
If you’d believe me girl...
I’ll try to change.

Though I sound angry, I’m not angry at you.
I’m angry at the things I do.
I should be wiser, and not so insecure.
And learn to say sorry to you.

You never told me how much it hurts to be so lonely.
Track Name: Devil's Almanac
I pass you trotting cross the square.
My hazy being faded into air.

But I don’t know you,
I only know the past.
How could I turn to
The sickly stain you massed?
Cuz I adore you and I want this feeling to last.
And I’ll continue, cuz I want this feeling to last.

Nowadays you’re always wearing black.
You reveal to me the devil’s almanac.

But I don’t know you,
I only know the past.
How could I turn to
The sickly stain you massed?
Cuz I adore you and I want this feeling to last
And I’ll continue, cuz I want to kiss your ass.

Fathers, mothers, sons, and daughters,
Let’s care, let’s care for one another.
Dark times, dark times may be upon us.
The peace and love can go beyond this.

What’s your name? Do you have one?
Where’s your home? Do you own one?
Where’s your kin? Do you have one?
Where’s your grave? Did you dig one?
Where’s your wall? Did you build one? (Fathers, mothers, sons, and daughters,)
Where’s your pride? Do you keep one? (Let’s care, let’s care for one another.)
Where’s your mind? Do you use one? (Dark times, dark times may be upon us.)
Where’s your mind? (The peace and love can go beyond this.)

Where’s your mind? (Fathers, mothers, sons, and daughters,)
Where’s your mind? (Let’s care, let’s care for one another.)
Where’s your mind? (Dark times, dark times may be upon us.)
(The peace and love can go beyond this.)
Where’s your mind?
Track Name: Houston
the faculty may say that I have no brain,
I am a child anyhow,
could never understand it through my ADD,
they've called me a monster ever since you

came back from Houston

when your hair is falling you remember to pray
when the chaos starts you will understand pain
you're setting up this radio we bought you on father's day
keeping your composure hasn't been insane until you

came back from Houston

they say god loves all his children
that's what the friendly women say
they came over when you were out at work
and sat in little circles and begged for you to stay

come back from Houston
Track Name: Self Pity
I make mistakes that I can never take back,
I’m a mess and that’s a matter of fact,
I’m gone, far gone
I can’t run away from the future,
And I can run away from the past,
I’m gone, far gone
And I’ll step into that casket,
And I’ll never look back

I’m an experiment gone wrong,
Where do I belong?
I swear I’ll die alone,
‘Cuz I’m nothing

And if anybody ever loved me,
They sure as hell don’t no more,
I’m gone, far gone
And I thought I could make someone love me,
But I guess I’m just a bore,
I’m gone, far gone
And I’ll step into that coffin,
And I’ll never look back

I’m an experiment gone wrong,
Where do I belong?
I swear I’ll die alone,
‘Cuz I’m nothing

And I’ll step into that casket,
And I’ll never look back

I’m an experiment gone wrong,
Where do I belong?
I swear I’ll die alone,
‘Cuz I’m nothing
Track Name: Shoes Over Soles
None of me can walk anymore,
My feet are numb and my legs are sore,
I’ve traveled too far, and my skin is blue

It’s been too long since the days,
You sang your poetry in a haze
That reminded me to adore you

You used to be my Polaroid,
My cotton candy in the void
Who do you pretend to be now?

My shoes are falling apart; battered soles
Though in reality, we’re the souls
That have no frame of reference anyhow.
Track Name: Happy Spirits
Friend of spirit, friend of mine,
I promise I’ll write you most of the time.
Make some sense out of this place we live in
And share it with me.

After all, it’ll get better
And I know what we’re going to do together:
Take the time to notice how we’re wrong,
And we’re wrong every once in awhile.

It’s not my style to be so happy,
But I’m trying to be happy for you.
For all we know it could be the answer.
I’ll love the world, and so should you.

Friend of merits, reason, rhyme,
I’m tempted to rely on you instead of mankind.
Every time I call, you answer brightly,
And say “Hello!” (Hello, Hello)

You pick me up when I’m sad.
I tell ya, you’re the best thing I’ve ever had.
And I will always be around for you
When you need me to.

It’s not my style to be so happy,
But I’m trying to be happy for you.
For all we know it could be the answer.
I’ll love the world, and so should you.

It’s not my style to be so happy,
But I’m trying to be happy for you.
For all we know it could be the answer.
I’ll love the world, and so should you.
Track Name: Lullaby
Honestly I've never heard of this game, I could tell you I love you but I'd be lying again
And it's easy to lie I've done it before. I lie next to you every night oh how that's a chore

I'd get some money, pack my bags. I bet you'd understand
But it's cold out there and strangers are cruel, would it be stranger if I stayed your fool

If you'd just hold me tight. If you would hold me just right
We could try to forget what it means to not give a shit at all

So I'm sending this signal and I hope it reaches you. And when it finally does I hope that I'm not misconstrued
Because my message is out of range. Come back home so I can try my best to translate

If you'd just hold me tight. If you would hold me just right
We could try to forget what it means to not give a shit at all

If you'd just hold me tight. If you would hold me just right
We could try to forget what it means and make fun of it

If I met you in any other circumstance, there'd be a great demand, you'd want me
I knew I'd write you a song, but not this one Kinda hoped it'd be something more fast paced and fun

If you'd just hold me tight, If you would hold me just right
We could try to forget what it means to not give a shit at all
Track Name: Pure Garbage
When the world is pure garbage,
We’ll have to get out of this mess,
Before all the rest do

And my arms carry our luggage,
Of suicide and war,
The things we fight to keep but fight to lose

We ten billion saviors,
Are all but demons, too,
With bags of spoiled food and razorwire

If you think this place is garbage,
Just wait a few more years,
And see what the human race is for
